Question—

How do we recruit and encourage businesses who hire locals and serve the children and families in the community, to join our neighborhood? 

Goal—

Activate public spaces for the kids in the neighborhood. This is part of a bigger goal of ours to have active spaces for residents throughout the neighborhood. 

Our Approach—

• Connected with and help Salemtown Board Company find space on Buchanan Street

• Enter into partnerships with them and related third parties.  We formed a partnership with Universal Music Group who paid for a skateboard park to be incorporated into 1003 Buchanan Street project.

Impacted Groups—

Salemtown Board Company, neighborhood children, young men seeking employment, & resident families.

Partner Highlight—

Salem Board Company makes skateboards and works to employ young men in the neighborhoods they work in. They have a mentorship role within hard skills as well as entrepreneurial skills.

Result—

Salemtown Board Company relocated from Salemtown which had gentrified very quickly. People could no longer afford to live there and so they desired to bring their vision to Buchanan. With their assistance locals have been employed and a skatepark built in our neighborhood!
